Director's Words

At Kwong On Cheong, soya sauce is more than just a condiment—it’s the heart of what brings joy to your meals. There’s no greater satisfaction for us than seeing families come together, enjoying a deliciously prepared dish made with our “KOC” brand sauces.

It’s possible that you’ve tasted our products under a different name because of private labelling. From time to time, we’re thrilled to reconnect with long-lost customers who’ve returned after a search for that familiar taste. Remember those conversations with family—your mom or aunt reminiscing about a special condiment brand they loved, only to find it no longer available? That could very well have been us.

As we continue our journey through the rich history of artisanal soya sauce, your support plays an integral role in shaping the future of our “KOC” brand. From the bottom of our hearts, we thank you and your families for your continued trust and loyalty.

Founder’s History

In 1931, filled with a mixture of fear, hope, and excitement, our Founder Song Pak Kwai set foot on foreign soil for the first time. Hailing from Guangdong, China, the young man arrived in Singapore with little more than ambition and a small amount of money, seeking a better future. To survive, Pak Kwai worked three different jobs a day, but his determination to succeed remained unshaken.
Drawing on the skills he learned from his grandfather and fueled by an unwavering drive, Pak Kwai opened his first soya sauce factory in 1937 on Lavender Street. He named the company Kwong On Cheong, meaning “to spread peace and prosperity” in Chinese.

In 1939, the iconic “Flying Horse” brand was officially registered. The image of a soaring Pegasus symbolised the belief that success would come to those who work hard and persevere. As the business grew, the company moved to larger facilities, first at Defu Lane and then to Senoko South.

The Founder unfortunately passed away in 1990, handing over the torch to his first son, Song Chun Cheong. Under Chun Cheong’s leadership, the company refined its recipes and started venturing into private labelling for various well-known brands in Singapore.

In 2013, the company restructured as a private limited entity and expanded into the Malaysian market in Johor. Under the continued guidance of Mr. Song, Kwong On Cheong aims to grow further, bringing its healthy, naturally crafted soya sauce to customers across the region and beyond.
